IV Sedation for Kids in Springville, UT

Advanced IV Sedation Monitored by a Nurse Anesthetist

When your child needs extensive dental treatment, or when lighter sedation has not provided enough comfort, IV sedation delivers a deeper level of relaxation. IV sedation is offered at both our Springville and Payson offices, and every case is administered and monitored by a dedicated nurse anesthetist.

The process is designed to be as easy as possible for your child. We first give a mild oral sedative to help them relax. Once your child is comfortable, the anesthesia provider gently places the IV — most children barely notice. Medication then flows through the IV, allowing the sedation team to adjust the depth of relaxation in real time. Your child stays in a deeply calm state, breathes independently, and will have little to no memory of the treatment afterward.

IV sedation is an excellent choice for children with high anxiety, special healthcare needs, or dental plans that require longer appointments.

What to Expect With IV Sedation

1

Consultation and Pre-Visit Instructions

Our team reviews your child's medical history and explains the entire process during a consultation. We provide fasting guidelines, typically no food for at least six hours and no clear liquids for at least two hours before the procedure.

2

Oral Pre-Sedation and IV Placement

Your child is first given a mild oral sedative to help them relax. Once comfortable, the anesthesia provider gently places a small IV line — most children barely notice. Sedative medication then flows through the IV, and your child becomes deeply relaxed within moments.

3

Treatment Under Continuous Monitoring

While the nurse anesthetist monitors heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and breathing, the pediatric dentist completes all planned dental work. Sedation depth is adjusted throughout the procedure to maintain the ideal level of comfort.

4

Recovery and Home Care

After treatment, your child recovers in our office under close observation until they are alert and stable. We provide detailed post-sedation care instructions. Expect your child to feel drowsy for several hours, so plan for rest at home for the remainder of the day.

Why Families Choose IV Sedation

Precise, Real-Time Control

Because medication flows continuously through the IV, the sedation team can fine-tune the depth of relaxation at any moment. This gives your child exactly the right level of comfort throughout the entire visit.

Extensive Treatment in One Visit

IV sedation allows our dentists to safely complete multiple or complex procedures in a single appointment, reducing the total number of visits and minimizing disruption to your family's routine.

Dedicated Safety Provider

Having a nurse anesthetist focused solely on sedation means the dentist can concentrate entirely on dental care. This two-provider model creates an extra layer of safety for your child.
